The Space Between Therapy | Rebecca Wall & Carlie Fairbairn

This isn’t your typical sit on a couch therapy session.

The Space Between.

The Space Between.

The Space Between exists to support you to experience a deeper understanding of yourself, to support and guide you to get to a place of genuine well-being and contentment.

We believe that wellbeing comes from a place of connection and that connection begins with an understanding of; and appreciation of the self.

Whether you come to us as part of a couple, a parent or an individual we will work with you to better understand who you are, what you need and how we can support you to feel better connected to yourself and those around you.

We created The Space Between to help make life and the relationships that go with it a little bit easier. Research in attachment, neuroscience, empathy and compassionate communication has provided us with effective and proven tools for strengthening relationships.

Our hope is to share these tools with you, and to personalise them to your relationship, be it with your partner, your child or your friends with the aim of gaining a deeper, more meaningful connection.

Bec and Carlie started ‘The Space Between’ to be a therapeutic space with a difference. We wanted to establish a counselling practice that is fun and normalises the difficulties we all face in our lives.

We have benefited so much from what we have learned and believe that therapy shouldn’t only be a place you go when things get ‘bad’. That with the right approach it can be space that is useful, relevant and inspiring; no matter what stage of life you are at.

Our story

Carlie is a social worker with over 10 years of experience working with children, young people and their families. She is highly experienced in individual and family systems work, with a focus on supporting parents to respond to challenging aspects of parenthood.

From Carlie . . .

Creating a therapeutic space that challenges traditional expectations of counselling is something I am passionate about.

We all have times when we are not vibing with ourselves, when we feel our relationship is in a rut or we feel like we’re failing as a parent.

I want to be able to use my training and experience to help you recognise how strong you are. To help you gain a better understanding of how past experiences impact our current way of being, how often we cling to unfavourable versions of ourselves. And that the words you’re using to describe yourself might not be the whole, beautiful story.

I value connection and do not underestimate the importance of empathy, congruence, and understanding in creating a safe space for learning and growth. I bring warmth and enthusiasm to the therapeutic space that allows for the development of genuine connection, ease, and fun.

I am a believer in holistic and strengths-based approaches and I utilise a range of evidence-based therapies in my work. To better understand and help people make sense of how their inner experiences impact their relationships I use psychodynamic, attachment, and family systems theories.

My therapeutic approach depends on the client and their presenting issue however generally includes the use of;
· Schema Therapy
· Narrative Therapy
· Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Acceptance Commitment Therapy
· Strengths based and solution focused therapy
· and Systemic Family Therapy

For my work with couples I draw on schema therapy, emotion focussed therapy (EFT) and the Gottman method.

Carlie is currently available for relationship counselling and parenting support. For more info please see the services tab, or enquire by sending us an email.

From Bec . . .

I use a range of different approaches to support people to understand how their past trauma, childhood, patterns of behaviour or experiences may be impacting them in the now.

I am honest, warm and dedicated to being present to the work and to the human in front of me.

Outside of work, I enjoy all things animals, nature, health and travel.

I value the strength and uniqueness of each person sitting in front of me, and stay attuned and deeply empathic as a listener. I have a strong drive for social justice and supporting people to have the motivation and courage to re-engage with life and others.

I hope therapy can be a space of joy, laughter, learning, and a place of comfort.

I hold a master’s of social work and have 10 years of experience working with young people, adults, and families in the mental health setting. I use a range of evidence-based approaches and these are unique to each client and what they bring to therapy.

These include:
· Trauma Therapy
· Somatic Work

· Compassion Focused Therapy
· Strengths-Based Approach
· Family Systems Therapy
